ON THE FAST TRACK David Hayes Born in Seattle, raised in Tacoma, David Hayes, or “DH”, has been singing since he was just two years old. His mother started him in the church choir and throughout middle school and high school, singing class was always the best of his school years. David was in a quartet called Skool Boyz while at Stadium High School. To this day, he still runs into people that remember them from television, school assemblies and professional sporting events. After high school, David gave up singing completely for a couple years to attend community college, work with children, and involve himself with a group called Young Life. All those days of waking up at five in the morning and driving to the church to pick up the van are indelibly etched in his memory. He would drive the van around, pick up all the kids he was overseeing and take them to the Young Life house where he was living. He’d feed them and give them a quick message before taking them to school – a period of his life that he enjoyed the most. After Young Life, David was hungry to find something to do with his time, and soon realized he wanted to pursue his singing. He reunited with a couple friends to start a group called “Unique”. For three and a half years the group that started with four ended up with just himself and Shamaurie Lewis. They performed at many different places, for many important people but weren’t going anywhere fast, so they decided to go their separate ways. It was then David decided he needed to take a different tact with his music by putting his poetry to music, and that’s exactly what he did. A good friend, musically involved with a guy named Robbie Clinton of rits4productions, invited David to come into the studio and talk with him. DH decided it was the perfect fit for him at that time and worked with him for about a year. In 2006, he released his first CD titled One Chance – a well-rounded compilation of R&B, Hip Hop, Rap, and even a little Country. In 2007, he started getting involved in the karaoke scene, hitting up different locations to play his CD or just allow him to sing from the CD. This became his primary source of exposure, since most of the people he’d met on the karaoke scene knew him by Willie rather than DH. During the summer of ‘07, he auditioned for the Tacoma Idol Contest at the Taste of Tacoma and made it. He ended up winning the title of Tacoma Idol 2007! As the Tacoma Idol for 2007, he went on to the Puyallup Fair to compete in the Battle of the Idols. Now, halfway through 2008, David’s been blessed with so many opportunities. In January, he released his CD/demo called “Remixed” with some oldies, some goodies, and some collabs for those that like a mixture of music all on one project. He was invited to sing the National Anthem at Emerald Downs on the 4th of July and continues to do shows all over Washington and Oregon. David has just finished his second project titled “Choose Me”, to be released in September 2008. “I just want to remind everyone that music is what you make it and everyone has their hobby. Mine hasn’t changed for the last 30 years. Singing is my life and any chance I get to make it, give it, or share it with people, I do.” - David Harris, aka DH. | ||
