THE QUARTERDECK BAR; VANCOUVER, WA By Kurt “Swingcat” Johnson A change can do you good. And that’s exactly what’s happening at The Quarterdeck Bar located at 4300 E. Fourth Plain Blvd in Vancouver, Washington. The Quarterdeck is a neighborhood pub with an excellent location on a busy main street. Currently, Luke and Sarah Wayne, owners, are in the middle of upgrading the bar’s interior and jump-starting it’s karaoke by adding a new KJ, updating and remodeling the bar. They are developing plans to improve and update it’s sound system, modernizing its karaoke system and subtantially enlarging it’s song selection. They also have plans to add a new dance floor in the near future to accomodate and encourage dance sets. The Quarterdeck has a comfortable and roomy interior, pool tables, and an outdoor beer garden. Being in Washington State, it is completly non-smoking inside but allows smoking in the beer garden. Service at The Quarterdeck is prompt and efficient. The bar staff all go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable. Theme nights and nightly specials make the Quarterdeck fun and frivolous. As soon as they can get a provider, they intend to re-introduce Texas Hold ‘Em poker nights. They have continuous sports programming on TV as well as special televised events. Luke and Sarah have owned the Quarterdeck for two years. Sarah keeps a close watch on the bar’s operation. She explained about The Quarterdeck’s new direction, “We try to get that neighborhood vibe. Luke and I are always here. We really try to interact with the customers and make them feel as comfortable as possible. We’ve had karaoke for about a year now. We want to be known for karaoke on the weekends and to get some of the crowds from across the river in Portland.” Heading up the remake of the The Quarterdeck’s karaoke program and system is their new KJ, Aaron. His debut weekend at the Quartedeck was in July. He’s been KJ’ing for almost two years, has managed the sound for bands for eleven years and has been in bands himself for nine years. He talked about the new karoake direction at The Quarterdeck, “I want to try to build karaoke back up. Whatever happened in the past is in the past. I’m here to run boards and allow folks to have fun. I believe karaoke should be about having fun. I want to keep everything balanced. I want people to remember the song, but not for it’s ringing in their ears for days. I like to draw people in to check it out and would love to draw in people from out of town.” Check out the Quarterdeck for your karaoke pleasures every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. See their ad on this page for details on their exciting scheduled weekly events. | ||||||||
