SLO PITCH PUB & EATERY; BELLINGHAM, WA By James Fellers So, you want to sing karaoke on a Sunday night and you can’t find a place to go? I suggest you stop by the Slo Pitch Pub & Eatery in Bellingham’s Sunset Square. The Slo Pitch is a well known local gambling and sports bar in Bellingham. For the past few months, Dan DeMann of De Mann Entertainment has been bringing his karaoke show to the Slo Pitch every Sunday night and filling a long-standing void in the local karaoke market. Dan is well known in the local karaoke community. Originally from New York City, Dan is a veteran karaoke host with over sixteen years experience as a KJ, eleven of which have been in the Whatcom County area. His quick wit and disarming demeanor will put you at ease whether you’re a seasoned singer or a karaoke virgin and his knowledge of music and music trivia are impressive. Between songs he keeps the crowd entertained with jokes and trivia until the next singer is ready. And when not behind the mic, Dan can be found out with the crowd ensuring that people are having a good time. The song collection is more than adequate so you will not be singing the same old songs that you might at some lesser shows and the sound system can rattle the dark windows of the Slo Pitch from their frames. As the slips come in, Dan keeps the rotation moving along making sure the singers know when it’s their turn. I ordered a red beer, some fish and chips then relaxed and listened to few of the favorites step up to the mic. Gretchen and Larry, each of whom never fail to treat the crowd with current hard-to-find hits and great renditions of those one hit wonders that make you say, “I haven’t heard that in years.” Followed later by Toby singing “Wanted Dead or Alive” The Slo Pitch offers the standard line beer, wine and cocktails and the kitchen menu matches that of any similar bar or pub I’ve been too. There is plenty of seating available whether it be at the bar or at the dining tables. An added plus has to be the gambling area that’s adjacent to the dining area. You can always try your luck at a few quick hands of Black Jack between songs. So now there’s no need to go looking for a decent place to sing karaoke on Sunday nights anymore. Just head on over to the Slo Pitch Pub & Eatery (Sunset Square), 1145 E. Sunset, Suite 130, Bellingham, (360) 733-2255. | |||||||||||||||
