NEIGHBOURS NIGHTCLUB; SEATTLE, WA
Neighbours Underground hosts Karaoke Idol!

By James Flaherty

Neighbours Nightclub on Seattle’s Capitol Hill is slated to start karaoke two nights per week starting Sunday, June 1st at 9pm. Yes, you heard that right. The popular Capitol Hill nightclub has finally been bitten by the karaoke bug.

Club manager, Mona Elassiouti, is determined to do it right from the start, which is why Mondays are “Karaoke Idol” night at Neighbours. The contest concept is simple; everyone who enters the Underground for karaoke on Idol night will receive a ballot, which can be used to vote for any performer during that evening. There are no eliminations, or complicated rules.

Everyone who sings on a Monday night is eligible to compete for the Karaoke Idol grand prize, which will be awarded on July 7th. The performer who has the most votes at the end of the six-week contest wins! The only stipulations are that Neighbour’s staff and KJ Jimi are not eligible to compete and that winners must be present on finals night to receive the grand prize. If winners are not present, then prizes will be awarded to the runners up. Prizes will also be awarded via random drawing for everyone who have cast a ballot. These drawings may take place on Sunday or Monday nights. Prizes will include cash, vacation packages and merchandise. The Idol contest will run in six-week cycles.

“We’ve been spending a great deal of time and energy preparing for this show”, says Jimi, “We’re adding television monitors and upgrading the sound system in the club’s Underground space where karaoke will take place every Sunday and Monday night.”

Lounge karaoke this is not. The Underground space boasts a huge sound system, which KJ Jimi says is perfect for his brand of show. “I like it loud”, he says, “All karaoke singers secretively want to be rock stars anyway – and with the sound and lights this place has to offer, performers will feel closer to stardom than they do at any other karaoke club on the hill. The energy level here is incredible.”

Fear not however. For those of you who desire a little peace and quiet, Neighbours Underground offers plenty of places where one can carry on a conversation. Karaoke fans can also venture upstairs to the popular dance club located on the main floor if they feel like dancing or just checking out the crowd. If you’ve never encountered Neighbour’s dance floor, you’re missing out on what is undoubtedly one of Seattle’s best.

The doors to the Underground open at 8:45pm, and karaoke starts at 9pm. There is no cover for karaoke. It is suggested that you come early if you like to sing often. Sunday night is regular karaoke. Use it to practice for the contest or just have a good time! Monday night is Karaoke Idol. Everyone who sings is automatically entered into the contest unless otherwise requested. Oh, and one last thing – Gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered and straights alike are welcome!

Neighbours Underground Nightclub is located at 1509 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122. Please enter from the Broadway street entrance rather than through the alley.
