CEDAR INN; LACEY, WA
Go genre-less

By Frank Davies

Do you enjoy a variety of musical styles and genres? Do you appreciate listening to music in stereo? Are you a discriminating listener who appreciates a good stereo mix with a wide variety of music? Then stop on in at the Cedar Inn in Lacey on any Friday or Saturday night between 9:00pm and 1:30am and thrill your ears via the technical wizardry of your karaoke/music host Tim Prellwitz.

Tim describes his own musical tastes as being “Genre’-less”. The music he plays ranges from Rock-n-Roll, Country, Country Rock, Rap, Hip-Hop, Blues, Jazz, eclectic hard-to-find songs, oldies, new releases, and rare versions of everything in between, all through a stereo 1 kilowatt audio system mixed by an Alesis Studio 24 stereo mixer and enhanced by a rack-mounted Berringer quad effects processor, helping karaoke singers sound their very best. Add to that the Intel dual-core 2Ghz computer system running Show Presenter 3.02 karaoke software with access to over 500 gigabytes of karaoke and music (about 100,000 songs including both karaoke and DJ music) and you have a very impressive show! While the music plays, colorful visuals dance across the huge flat screen monitor, or if it’s late enough, an avatar Go-Go dancer will dance in sync to both the music and the karaoke.

Tim is more than willing to mix up the styles from one song to the next giving everyone in the audience a chance to hear their favorites. Say hello and tell him what you like while there, or pick his brain regarding music and electronics, he has been a performing musician (singer-guitarist) since 1962, and has a solid background in electronics and broadcast engineering. Or step up to the mic and sing one. The atmosphere is comfortable and all about what comes to the imagination when hearing the name “Cedar Inn”.

They have the usual full compliment of refreshments including mixed drinks. Happy Hour runs Monday through Friday 4pm to 6pm. Also, they put out some mighty fine food - especially their famous specialty dish “Sex At The Inn” - an oyster dish with spicy bacon and cheese for only $5.50. Or if you are a T-bone steak fan (and who isn’t?), their Friday special of a 16-oz. T-bone for only $10.50 is a mouth-watering culinary nirvana most worthy of trying!

Paul (owner), Clair (bar manager), Richard, Susie, Doug and Justin are there to ensure that you enjoy good service in addition to having a good time listening, singing or playing pool or darts.

Smokers are welcome! If you’re a smoker, they have an outdoor covered patio just for smokers, and back inside there’s a dance floor up front just for you smokin’ hot dancers.

You’ll find it all at the Cedar Inn, 9030 Martin Way in Lacey (360) 459-5509.
