Welcome to the Northwest Karaoke Guide

The ultimate shaft bullseye

By Gary & Jo Christensen

We were getting tired of sitting around waiting for our turn to sing at the different karaoke places we've been to. We always have a good time wherever we go, but needed something to do when the singing rotation gets a little long.

Along comes a dart board and some very nice people at STARS BAR & GRILL. The regular shooters there took us under their wing and showed us the ropes. Good thing, because we had no clue how to play 501 or Cricket. Lots of numbers, circles and pie shaped spaces. Very confusing until you're shown how easy it is. Thanks to TJ, Glen, Joe, Linda, Randy, Darren, Robert, Cheryl and the other regulars for all the 'motherly and fatherly' advice.

With some new darts, a lot of practice, watching the others and some hints on strategy, we can now play the STARS Friday night tournaments with confidence and full enjoyment of the game. Some nights it's a bring-your-own-partner, so Jo and I play together. On other nights it's a parity draw where you're partner is chosen to create equality of team skill. They're both fun and once in a while one of us even wins a few bucks.

With all this practice, now and then you will see an unusual shot that just has to be mentioned. When we first started shooting, Jo was throwing a slap shot now and then, as we all have done. This particular time though, instead of the dart falling on the floor, it bounced back and stuck in the side light of the dart cabinet. We just happened to have a camera with us to take the picture. Then, a week ago Friday, our friend Glen Hudson, one of the guys that got the Friday night tourneys going at STARS, did something we might never see again. He hit a 19, another 19, then the last dart scored a 19 but ricocheted in such a way as to slide itself into the hole in the shaft of one of the first two darts and come to rest on the other dart. Glen's eyes lit up as he turned around to show us all the placement of the darts. We grabbed picture phones and caught the moment with a picture. What a fun game!

If your waiting for your karaoke turn and reading this paper, GIVE DARTS A TRY! If you're playing darts and have always wanted to try a song or two. JUST GO FOR IT! The karaoke crowd will embrace you. Come give the STARS BAR & GRILL Friday night dart tournament a try. IT'S A BLAST!

Shoot well, happy singing, and bye for now, Gary & Jo.
