KATE’S PUB; SEATTLE, WA University Idol 2009

By Ty Hughes

Kate’s Pub was the scene when Patrick Clark and his gang took over for some serious karaoke action. The place filled up bigtime. I was perched on the wood stove in the back.

They had a winner to find. They were looking for someone with the huevos to prove themselves worthy of the title University Idol.

At the time of this printing, the winner was yet unknown. Watch for more next month.

Those singers that came out to Kate’s that night expressly to qualify for the contest were amazing. Everyone looked awesome and felt great, you could tell. It was like a campout, shoulder to shoulder.

The singers you see pictured here totally gave it their best shot.

Jarrod took first place with Dead Or Alive. Karolina grabbed second place in this qualifier event with Let’s Stay Together. So they would be singing in the Finals event at Fourno’s on November 24.

Jojo sang Creep, Karianne did a sexy Big Spender routine. Brent sang Enter Sandman followed by John C. with Rollout, talented. Then we got a double-shot of Andrews, Rodney was in the wings. Came in at the end of sign ups and put his name in the hat but needed a minute to choose just the right song.

Once they finally found the missing John Chaya, he and Rob performed the perfunctory of judging the evening’s competition.

Pat Clark said, “The singers are returning to qualify”, and that’s a good thing. Kate’s was certainly a testament to the growing excitement around karaoke today.

Captain Dan slid in with Rich Girl. I like that genre. Galena rolled out with Fever, nicely done!

Finally it was Rodney that chose to perform Mad World flawlessly. These guys can really sing. Can’t wait to see who wins! Of course, they held qualifiers all over town, all week at Dante’s, Atlantic Crossing, Kate’s Pub, Fourno’s, Little Red Hen, and WingMasters.

The Finals would surely be pregnant with quality talent.

Pat Clark’s also got several other contests getting ready to run. The Battle In Seattle is scheduled to hold qualifiers from Des Moines to Bellevue and all points between during the week of December 7 through the 13th. Check out the ad on page 5 for details, etc. Should be a good one guys, get out there and put yourself in the mix. See what happens. Don’t know til ya try, right?

Best of luck to those competing in the University Idol Finals. The Karaoke & Entertainment Guide will be there.
