MEL’S OLD VILLAGE PUB; LYNNWOOD, WA Old Village Pub comes complete with karaoke
By Ty Hughes
So it turns out that Melanie, aka; Mel from Harvey’s in Edmonds got her own bar and wants you to come say hello! She picked up the Old Village Pub off 76th Ave W and 196th Street in Lynnwood about six months ago.
“It used to be kind of a dive barâ€, she tells me, but looking around I couldn’t imagine it. The place is clean, upbeat. The people are all friendly, happy, middle-class workin’ folk out for a good time. Most of them are fans of Mel herself and followed her over from Harvey’s. She’s great at making everyone feel comfortable, she loves what she’s doing and it shows.
Friends gather around the big indoor open fire pit and tell stories over cold beers. Course, the fire’s not burning just yet, but apparently that fireplace warms up the whole bar real good in winter. Everyone seems to really enjoy the atmosphere at the all-new Old Village Pub.
Mel didn’t get just acquire a bar either, along with the bar came Dick’s Karaoke, as told by Dick himself. Dick’s Karaoke has been hosting karaoke since 2002 around the northend, and already two years at the Old Village Pub.
“The bar has completely changed,†says Dick, “There used to be only a few singers on Thursdays, but now there are usually fifteen to twenty in the rotation.†A testament to the new ownership, I suspect.
The Old Village Pub is currently promoting a karaoke contest of their own under Dick’s supervision. Every Thursday join host Matt, and then Saturday night join hosts Donita or Cindy to qualify to win weekly prizes, plus a chance to compete in the Finals on Sunday, November 16th for cash. They’re paying down to fourth place, so get on in there and try your luck. One winner per night (Thursday and Saturday) leading up to the finals will be invited to sing on November 16 against nineteen other hopefuls and possibly take home some extra spending money.
They have a collection of over 13,000 songs, including laser discs, plus they’re always updating the library. Whether it’s Country, Rock, or anything else, they love their karaoke here.
Dick’s Brother-In-Law, Harry was in the house and ready to do some singin’. Harry used to operate his own karaoke hosting company called KC Productions, before selling to Larry Nicholson of Larryoke Karaoke. Larry’s health has reportedly declined recently, so let’s keep him and Melanie in our prayers.
By the way, “Skid†won the karaoke contest on the night we stopped by, so we’ll be seeing him in the finals.
The all-new Old Village Pub is a biker-friendly bar with live music, pool, darts, pulltabs, video games, a daily happy hour, and killer karaoke. It’s not the old Old Village Pub. Pop in and congratulate Mel on her new bar and check out the change in attitude – you’ll be richer for the experience.
