Jai Thai jazz unforgettable

Jai Thai jazz unforgettable

By Mary Lamken
Jai Thai is a nice little restaurant and bar on Capitol Hill’s Broadway Ave. My friend and I needed a “girl’s night out” and decided to hit this place because we saw in their ad they had a jazz open mic/karaoke event. Let me just say, we are so glad we did this, and we think you should join them on your next Saturday night adventure!

Hit Connections Report

Hit Connections Report

Don’t let someone else be responsible for your crowd
By Dean McNeal
Having entertainment is like “the tree in the woods that falls” if no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? If you have a venue, and hire entertainment, why would the venue not tell anyone? Depending on the band is like having the tree make the announcement for you. Hire entertainment, then promote what you have!
Often I have experienced two similar venues place the same size advertisement to the same crowd, yet one venue will have a better response than the other, have you ever wondered why?

Dee Effin Karaoke Hot Spot

Sex & Karaoke? say What?
SEX & KARAOKE
Now, this is not the kind where some hot babe sings a song that gets you all bothered, and you wake up together in some sleazy motel bed, gawd knows where! While not-so-memorable, I’m sure, there are other things that tie the two words together.

Oregon Karaoke Association (ORKA): An introduction

By William Smythe
I’d like to introduce a new monthly article dedicated to the education and betterment of the Karaoke industry in the Northwest. The Oregon Karaoke Association (ORKA) is a loosely connected group formed over six years ago by karaoke stores, KJs, DJs and Karaoke enthusiasts who wanted to see growth in talent development and better education to support the karaoke industry, musicians and the karaoke music they provide.
In 2006 Oregon lost most of its licensed karaoke retail stores to karaoke piracy and illegal karaoke operators. Today there are, perhaps, just two karaoke stores left in Oregon licensed to sell karaoke music and who understand the twists and turns of new laws and licensing for “Digital Karaoke” use.

Rocky & Kristine’s Karaoke Corner

Non-drinkers rude? You be the judge. Or not.
It’s finally beginning to warm up just enough to fill us with hope of summer, just around the corner. For me, it also means I stress out a lot more about how I look, especially when I’m up on that stage singing. So it’s time to get off my fanny and get movin’ so I can feel great when I take that stage. What about you?

Grease fire damages Rickshaw Restaurant

Grease fire damages Rickshaw Restaurant

By Ginger Luke
On March 24, 2012, a grease fire broke out at the Rickshaw Restaurant during their regular karaoke show, severely damaging the kitchen.
Just as we were hugging each other, the waitress came flying out of the kitchen, yelling “FIRE!”
The fire department was only a mile away so along came four fire engines, along with four police cars.

Karaoke-4-Kids Goes Over The Top

Karaoke-4-Kids Goes Over The Top

By Mark Zetterburg
In its second year, KARAOKE-4-KIDS delivered on the “Z-Man’s” (Mark Zetterberg’s) promise to beat last year’s donation totals by raising over $700 for the local Toys-For-Tots campaign. Thanks to the generosity of singing and non-singing patrons, KJs, bar owners, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, the charity was able to present the Marines with $200 more than in 2010.

Benchwarmer comes full circle

Benchwarmer comes full circle

By Ty Hughes
The Benchwarmer in Kent has gone through many changes and upgrades over the past several years. So many, in fact, that they’ve actually come full circle, to become the same, good ol’ Benchwarmer that we remember growing up with.

ROCKTHEBLUES.COM MUSIC REVIEW: Jordan Riley

ROCKTHEBLUES.COM MUSIC REVIEW: Jordan Riley

Christian Rocker, Jordan Riley
By Julie Onsum, RockTheBlues
Jordan Riley. Sounds like a pretty easy name to forget until you meet all 6 feet, 6 inches of him.
Size 14 shoe, cloaked in piercings, tattoo’s, blue eyes, and that huge smile. He’s not part of your average cover band, Jordan is a Christian Rock singer!
Born and raised here in the Northwest, he hung out with neighborhood kids listening to RUN DMC, DC TALK, and The Beastie Boys. He headed off to college, started writing music with a buddy, and the rest is history.
