Golden Steer cranks up it up

Kent’s favorite Steak and Rib House, The Golden Steer, is heating up with the weather.

Their exhuberant karaoke host, Candy, has been thrilling her audience for an amazing 16 years at the same location. She started her gig at the tender age of 21 and is still rollin’ out the red carpet for her faithfuls with a great big smile. We stopped in on a Friday night to check out the contest currently being offered and were quickly gathered in by a friendly, welcoming group of party people out for a good time.

Candy was hosting karaoke for a couple of special parties that night, including Stacy’s big 40th birthday celebration and a bachelorette party for Maile as well. And, wherever the girls go, the guys are sure to follow, so the house was packed and lively.

The dance floor comes alive at Candy’s fingertips and the line dancing is extremely popular, bringing the masses surging onto the floor.

Patty manages the crowds’ thirst factor from behind the bar - now in her 17th year at the Golden Steer. And Candy gets some help from Biff who hosts on Mondays, and has been therelonger than both Candy and Patty!

The karaoke contest is well underway at the Golden Steer, but there is still plenty of time to qualify for the finals on June 11. Candy’s qualifying singers weekly on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Those folks will come back on Sunday for the semi-final qualifiers. The fortunate few from a month of Sundays will be invited to attend the June 11 affair.

The singers here are talented and dedicated to their craft. We saw Matt Lookin’ For Love, Alex After the Lovin’, Sherry got on the Crazy Train. John got everybody up and dancing, while Mark chimed in with the Eagles and his beautiful voice. No entry fee, no cover, just lots of fun and cash and gift certificates to the winners!

The Golden Steer lounge is big and comfortable with a well-used, country elegance that helps you settle right in and make some new friends. The music is well distributed, and the sound is clear and loud with speakers everywhere throughout the bar. The food! If nothing else, you’ve got to come in if for the food! Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served seven days a week. They also accommodate banquets and provide catering services.
