Rocky & Kristine’s Karaoke Corner

And The Winner Is…

By Rocky & Kristine Fields

The end of the Summer always brings loads of entertainment, and this year’s Evergreen Idol Finals at the Evergreen State Fair was at the top of my list! The Top 12 Finalists competed for a grand prize of $1,000.00, plus a chance to sing on the big stage before country superstar Rodney Atkins.

Sponsored by Everett’s Sound Light Karaoke, this year’s Evergreen Idol competition brought out the best of the best. Contestants qualified at one of over 20 locations around the state, advancing to the qualifying rounds at the fair. Here they were whittled down to the Top 12, each singing three songs hoping to win the judges’ votes.

Eighteen judges, all with musical backgrounds, some were previous Evergreen Idol winners, some karaoke hosts, and a few band members. It was a very fair panel to say the least, which was a good thing since the competition was fierce. Special thanks to Sound Light Karaoke staff for putting together such an incredible group of judges.

Bob and Clay, show hosts extraordinaire, kept the show moving right along with their funny banter, and witty jokes. The focus was not only on Bob’s bald-headedness, but also on Clay’s upcoming marriage. The panel of judges held up signs that read “Yes Dear!” whenever Clay would ask a question, poking fun at the “soon-to-be newly-married” host.

Even the halftime entertainment was exciting, when last year’s winner, Sabrina Keys, graced the stage, singing for the audience. Charli and Makayla also sang a couple of fun songs for the crowd. They’ve been providing halftime entertainment for a couple years, and each time they get better and better! It’s been fun watching them both grow and get better each year!

And finally! Congratulations to this year’s Evergreen Idol winner, Scott Crawford! Scott qualified at the Getaway Spirits in Mountlake Terrace, WA, karaoke hosted by Dena Nichols. He took the $1,000.00 top prize and opened for Rodney Atkins on the big stage in front of thousands of fans. He got to meet Rodney as well, and enjoyed the concert after wowing the audience with his beautiful singing voice.

Kelli Malloy was named Runner-Up to Scott, and Kate Wirth took 3rd place. Congratulations to all!

Sound Light Karaoke thanks each and every contestant that participated this year, not to mention, every location that supported the Evergreen Idol competition. It’s the singers and their sponsors who really make this event so memorable each year. Visit their Web site (www.isingkaraoke.com) or Facebook page (Soundlk LightKaraoke) if you’re interested in signing up your location to compete next year.
