PURR LOUNGE; SEATTLE, WA
Purr-ing on the hill

By Tamra Easley

This was a special Valentine's Day for the patrons of Purr in the form of a karaoke night like no other. There were a steady stream of highly entertaining singers and lots of love in the air.

Purr is a cozy, tucked away bar off of Broadway on Capital Hill. It is a converted warehouse space with just enough of the HVAC piping and brick wall left to give character to the environment where "chic" not "industrial" is exhibited. There are two comfortable seating areas available for your lounging pleasure, one is located in the front of the bar by the bay windows, it is arranged perfectly for the pastime of people watching complete with a red leather couch and two chaises. The second area is located in the back and is suited more for intimate conversations with friends, with several cozy couches facing one another, just perfect for chatting it up.

Purr has a fantastic sound system which pumps out DJ music six nights a week with Tuesdays being their karaoke night, which is deftly handled by the charismatic Matt, who ran a great Valentine's Day show where everyone had a good time.

The trio of Terrell Stephens and his two back up singers did a very entertaining version of "Milkshake". When Clayton Jones sang "When Will I See You Again" the conversations around the room quieted in order to fully enjoy the beauty of his voice. Clayton stated that he was recovering from a cold therefore his voice was not at 100%, but that was not apparent from the beautiful sounds issuing forth from his mouth. Purr's owner, Barbie, came out from behind the bar to grace us with "Maggie May". Micah Meryman's performance of "Walking in Memphis" can only be described by one word… WOW! Vincent Dayries rocked our socks off with "In My Hands". Ben Lidgus took us back to the 8 Mile soundtrack with "Lose Yourself" and even the photographer Gummi joined in on the festivities and hushed the room with "Wicked Game".

All in all, a wildly fun Valentine's Day night on "The Hill".
