New Midway Karaoke Hotspot

By Gary and Jo Christensen

The SeaTac, Des Moines, Midway area has always had some good karaoke nightspots, but there is a new show in town that we thoroughly enjoyed. It’s JJ’s Bar & Grill, located at 23836 Pacific Highway South, about a half mile south of Kent/Des Moines Road on Highway 99.

Our good friend, Dale Fitch, told us that the owners, Robby and Michong, had brought in karaoke five nights a week, so we thought we had better check it out. We’re glad we did. It’s a real homey atmosphere, dimly lit, friendly staff, good music, and a variety of singers. The plus for us is it’s real close to home.

Kristi, the karaoke host, is a real pro. Her company is ‘STARRY NIGHT KARAOKE’. She has over 14,000 songs available, and has been providing DJ and karaoke services since 1991. She started out in Bremerton with the original set of laser disks, and has built up her music selection and equipment ever since. Kristi had some health issues recently, but she has recovered nicely with a lot of help from her boyfriend, Jeff, and they are up and runnin’ full speed at JJ’s Saturday through Thursday from 9pm to 1:30am.

For now, Kristi has all her singer’s names on stars posted on the front of her booth, and the list keeps getting bigger. Come in, check it out and get your name added to the list. Besides Kristi, Jeff, Robby, Michong, Dale, Jo and I, there were 17 other singers including Angela, Chatalaine, Colette, Sandy, Kristen, Sheldon, Ann, Nick, Trish, Troy, Greg, Bekka, Bryon, Johnny, Cathy, Jim, and Heather. And I can’t forget the local retail store employees that stop in after work. The ones that don’t sing are great with the applause.

Come out and try JJ’s full bar, kitchen (good pizza), pool tables, dart board and (as I mentioned before) nice atmosphere. Sheri was the bartender and Trish was serving ‘em up the night we stopped in. They did a great job. Robby also wanted to make sure we tried his pizza. It really hit the spot.

Well, it’s time to pack. Jo and I are off for another adventure. Maybe even another karaoke hotspot in Eastern Washington. We’ll see what we can find this time. Give JJ’s a try; happy singing and bye for now.
