Toby Magee’s looks forward

If you’ve been searching for a karaoke-devoted location to call home, look no further than Toby Magee’s in Everett. Located at 12811 8th Ave West off the 128th Street exit of I-5, Toby’s is the place to nestle in, sing a few songs, and possibly win some valuable prizes for your efforts.

Every Wednesday night of each month, owners Don and Cami Hooker have been providing an opportunity for the karaoke lover to enter their monthly themed contest featuring newly acquired KJ, Sam Bocook, at the controls.

We stopped in one night in April to check out the action. The room wasn’t as full as they’d like it on this particular evening, but the turnout has generally been very positive, according to Cami. In April, the theme was Rock and Roll songs, and the audience seemed to take to the idea of performing their favorite Rock and Roll songs anxiously. Each Wednesday, two qualifiers were chosen to compete in the finals held on the last Friday of each month.

Don and Cami have recently installed a brand new sound system from top to bottom, not to mention a brand new personality in Sam, who is relatively new to the scene. The sound is excellent, filling the entire bar with well-distributed, lively notes and vocals. Toby’s atmosphere is comfortable, inviting and full of active, friendly people. There’s always a game of pool or two going on. Usually a game of Cricket at the boards and the folks who take up residence at the bar are all good friends.

Beginning in May, Toby’s will put off the monthly contests for a bit. Instead, they will be offering qualifiers for the Evergreen Idol Contest, sponsored by the Karaoke and Lighting Store in Everett. Come on out to Toby Magee’s every Wednesday night, check out the killer sound system, and earn your right to open for Trace Adkins on August 31st. The tropical motif at Toby Magee’s reflects the attitude of the patrons, the employees and the management.
