Big Sky Karaoke at Buzz Inn
By Rocky & Kristine Fields
We’ve been on the lookout for new karaoke venues close to home and realized that the Buzz Inn in Smokey Point was running karaoke several nights of the week. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Host Michael, of Big Sky Entertainment, sets up the gear and rocks the Buzz Inn with a lot of country, a little bit of soul, and some oldtime rock and roll too.
This location is convenient, right off the freeway at Smokey Point, that’s 172nd street for those of you who aren’t particularly familiar with the area. The bar at this Buzz is nice because it’s laid out in a long line, so from just about anywhere you sit you can at least watch the karaoke singers as they do their thing. There’s one pool table that’s not intrusive to the karaoke show, and the long bar that runs along the North side of the venue, is easy to get to, and to be seen.
They’ve got food, a good menu, typical of all Buzz Inn’s of course, and I was excited to order breakfast in the middle of the night!
The karaoke books were actually impressive. I found every song I was thinking about singing, some are not easy to find, but they had a really nice listing with three columns on each page to browse through.
We watched a couple of singers take the stage and engage the room with fun tunes.
I believe his name was Steve who sang a beautiful rendition of a Sinatra song that would make any fan proud. Wiley and Jeannie did a fun version of “Love Shack”, and the host also sang a little song to kick the night off. This show begins at 8pm, but people really begin to fill up the place between 8:30pm and 9pm. When we first arrived, promptly at 8pm, it was sparse, and we wondered if there was really going to be a show. But soon after we ordered drinks and got our menus, I turned around to see a whole bunch of people who were dressed to kill and ready to sing some serious karaoke. I’m not even kidding! I was impressed at the outfits these folks wore, and suddenly felt mildly underdressed, but happy that they wanted to look their best on that karaoke stage. No one knew we were coming in, so it’s really just the way it was! Refreshing, and a nice compliment to the Buzz Inn that they attract these finely dressed singers to their karaoke shows.
The Buzz Inn has pull tabs, a full bar, food and great karaoke too.
The show is scheduled from 8pm to Midnight, which works out nicely if you’re in the mood for dinner and some singing, or just watching some live entertainment. Did I mention the dance floor? Yes, and people are not shy to get up and shake their groove thing to your favorite karaoke song either.
It’s a fun atmosphere here, and it’s not too far off the beaten path to go and check out for yourself. Have a great time, we sure did!
