Gong Show hilarity returns to One Eyed Jack’s

By Ty Hughes

It’s Baaack!

One Eyed Jack’s Roadhouse on Hwy 99 in Everett is proud to announce the return of their famed Gong Show every Tuesday night! After a long two-year hiatus, OEJ’s owner Tom decided to bring back the wackiest show on the west side by popular demand.

What a spectacular event this is for all you closet performers and wannabe superstars. This is your chance to bring your craziest, most outrageous acts to the stage and earn yourself a name and possibly a few extra bucks. That is as long as you can go the distance without being gonged by their esteemed panel of judges. Some do, some don’t, but either way, it’s a real gas to witness some of these performers entertain.

On the very first night back in July, we caught five acts as they gave it their all on stage. A few simply sang a karaoke song, but would only score a possible eight points out of ten. Entertainers are encouraged to bring their crazy antics to the stage along with all the props they can carry to get the job done without getting the gong.

The judges on this particular night included Sean, a Quagmire (Family Guy) impersonator; plus Tina, an ex-bartender at OEJ’s and one of the original judges of the Gong Show five years ago; and finally, Jon Horton, of Jet City Improv, who is a professional crackup. Jon kept posting a variety of pseudonyms, including J.P. Morgan and Jamie Farr, some of the original Gong Show judges from the television show so many years back. Between the judges’ antics, host Tom’s witty remarks, and the acts themselves, the Gong Show is non-stop laughter. Hilarious cross-banter between Tom and the judges will have you rolling!

Chachi runs the sound equipment from a nice booth behind the guests. You can catch Chachi and his winning smile at OEJ’s for karaoke every Thursday and Sunday night.

Rhi and Ken did a duet. He played the guitar while she sang beautifully, a brand new song they had never performed together. Not only did they escape the humiliating gong, but they actually claimed first place and fifty bucks!

In a very close 2nd place, was the polished act of Adolf Labowski, three guys from Tacoma with guitars and bongo drums singing a tribute to the stars – in Hollywood, not the skies. These guys were great! They drove all the way out from Pierce County and snagged $25, plus a whole new set of fans.

Chelsea sang an Alicia Keys song very well taking 3rd place and a $10 gift certificate.

Esquire kicked things off with Me And Mrs. Jones, but must have rubbed Sean the wrong way, because it wasn’t long before the gong. He seemed put off by the judge’s response. Gino did a great Rebel Yell, but was still gonged nonetheless.

Come one, come all to One Eyed Jack’s every Tuesday for the return of the best night in eclectic entertainment going! The Gong Show kicks off around 10pm. If you have an act and want to show off your talents no matter what they might be, and I do mean whatever they are, be sure you’re signed up by 9:45pm.  If you can lick your elbow, we wanna see you at One Eyed Jacks in Lynnwood next Tuesday!

If you’re more of the spectator than the performer type, then you’ve got to see this hilarious show for yourself! Bring your buddies and enjoy special drink prices all night long.

Come out early next Tuesday for a good seat up front and prepare to laugh your butt off!

One Eyed Jack’s Roadhouse is located at 14019 Hwy 99 in Lynnwood, (425) 743-5570. See their ad in this issue for more details.
