Sing away at the Haven
By Ty Hughes
The Haven Pub’s karaoke host, PJ, is the glue that keeps this Tacoma location’s karaoke program running as smoothly as it does. Still growing, DJ PJ’s style of karaoke show is attracting singers from around the Sound. Rosa and the gang behind, and around the bar, run a tight ship. Nobody goes unnoticed and is always greeted with a smile.
The Haven enjoys a solid group of regulars, if not for karaoke, then for pool, beer pong, great food or drink! Besides, they’ve got some kind of special going on every night of the week! Monday is Steak
Night, then there’s Taco Tuesday, Spaghetti Wednesday, Kabob Thursday, plus dollar drafts from 3pm-7pm. Friday is Fettuccine night, followed by Seafood Saturday, and a killer breakfast on Sunday until 1pm.
Ari, now a Sergeant in our U.S. Army, represents a large number of troops that put the Haven at the top of their list for a great night out on the town. He shared some of his wartime photos and stories with us. Just incredible. You’ve just got to respect the hell out of those guys.
You’ll always meet someone interesting at the Haven, but you’ve got to put yourself out there and be nice. Just say hello. These people at the Haven are a great group, full of fun.
They all love DJ PJ, who’s been hosting here for years. He connects with his audience, and he’s pretty handy behind the bar as well. The Haven is his home, and you can tell when he talks about the place that he loves this bar, it’s customers, and the management.
KJ Chris will come in and run the show from time to time, giving PJ a chance to rest up and be at his best. PJ and the Haven are proud to be enrolled in the Sound Choice Safe Haven Program, and run a completely legal show. They are currently rebuilding the library of songs back to what they’re used to, so if there’s something you like to sing that’s not in the book, be sure to ask PJ to bring it in.
Give the Haven Pub a try for karaoke next Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night from 9pm-1am. Find them at 12510 Pacific Avenue S., Tacoma, WA 98444, phone (253) 537-1252.
