Kathy’s Pizza with a slice of karaoke

By Ty Hughes

Oh man, you North Seattleites are so lucky! I would give my right arm to have a Kathy’s Pizza, Grill and Sportsbar in my neighborhood. But, they’d probably have me arrested, on account of my tent blocking the front door and stuff.

The locals are familiar with the location of Kathy’s Pizza, from years gone by when it was a Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor, and then became Mr. Bill’s, one of the North Seattle’s most popular nightclubs. Most recently, someone started a soccer bar here, but that idea was kicked to the curb.

Enter Todd and Tylor, a father and son team that brought their vision and hard work to a tired old building. After purchasing the place in December 2010, they promptly went to work, renovating the entire property. Three months of extensive rebuilding resulted in a complete makeover rivaling anything on any reality show. When they finally opened their doors to the public in February 2011, every square inch of that incredible building had been scrubbed, painted, replaced, or enhanced in some way. Those of you who have been here before Todd and Tylor got a hold of it, wouldn’t recognize a lick of it. But, you’ll certainly appreciate the concept that is being presented at Kathy’s Pizza, Grill and Sportsbar. Named after Todd’s late wife, they hope to open several stores eventually.

My immediate reaction upon walking in was uplifting. It’s bright, airy, fresh and super clean! And the pleasant smell of breakfast on the grill hit me square in the face. I was ordering the breakfast special before my butt hit the seat. Granted, breakfast is my favorite, so you know I frequently partake of the 1st meal. That plate of food the nice lady placed in front of me; French toast, eggs, and sausage, was quite possibly the best ever! Wow.

So the food is to absolutely die for here. Todd and Tylor tell me they use homemade sauces and crusts, and the very best cheeses available in their pizzas. Pan or hand-tossed, their Meat Lover’s Pizza is literally blowing the minds of those that wraps their lips around a slice. Apparently the White Pizza is running a close second. Definitely a situation requiring more research.

Kathy’s will even hand-deliver ice cream to local residents. Now that’s how you build a good business rappiore. They deliver their delicious culinaries to the very doorstep of grateful locals all the time. In fact, they’re expanding their delivery area soon.

Let’s not forget, Kathy’s Pizza, Grill and Sportsbar also features a full-on bar decked out with all the contemporary attention-getters. Including Trivia Night every Thursday, and the occasional Big Beer Pong. Have you seen this? It’s Beer Pong on steroids! They play it out on the big patio, which also has big screen TVs under the eves, by the way, a nice touch.

While all that is important to note, we need to discuss the amazing karaoke at Kathy’s. Come on, you knew it was coming. Man, if you like karaoke in its purest form, spend an evening at Kathy’s and see how you like those Bose speakers around the room. Christopher Rossiter sets up and runs the system every Friday night starting at 8:00pm. Glenn Sterley takes over the controls on Wednesday nights, same time. Both of these guys are true professionals and enjoy making karaoke dreams come true.

They actually clear out the dining area and sing in the restaurant portion. The dance floor is out there and it gets busy quick. Hey, for those of you looking for a place to take your kids to sing karaoke, this is your new home. The little guys get to sing all the way until 10:00pm. After that, they should be in bed anyway.

Chris and Glenn are trained to maintain a high-level of interest during their shows. Everybody loves the music videos they play between singers, another nice touch. Nothing worse than dead air.

Todd says they’re looking at bringing in a camera to broadcast each singer on the monitors around the bar, which oughta go over big. Plus, they’re going to start offering singers a chance to take home a DVD recording of themselves singing in front of an audience.

Kathy’s offers great karaoke, awesome food, cheap drinks, dancing, singing, playing – what more could you possibly want?! How about UFC Fights, the NFL Package, and live Classic Rock and R&B music on Saturdays?

Hey, if you weren’t sold by breakfast, you can’t be helped. But if you were, then grab the kids and the car keys and head over to the all-new Kathy’s Pizza, Grill and Sportsbar; 930 N 130th Street, Seattle, WA (206) 829-9251 and become a fan! There’s plenty of parking.
