On the 8th day God created karaoke…
By Thomas Haley
… and it was sooo good.
In the early part of the millennium, at a local contest, a new face appeared through the mist; with vocal stylings that would give even the most talented performer a run for their money; his name was Super Steve. One that would be revered for all eternity as the savior of karaoke.
Summoned from Mount Olympus and honed by the hands of Apollo himself, he struck fear and love into the heart of mankind, and all knew his name. At least anybody within a 50-mile radius of Tacoma, and life was good. We were happy to perform alongside Super Steve at his location in Fircrest, where he hosted what has been called “The best karaoke show in the Northwest”. He was always quick with a joke, and a light of your smoke, and I would say “Man, what are you doing here”? Everything was right in the world, until one day without notice, he was asked to step down from his hosting position. Super Steve had been placed in a distant town called Dupont where his voice was silenced. With a spirit broken, he gave homage to the karaoke gods hoping that his penance would someday be paid.
Months later, he ventured once again to Tacoma, his first appearance since. People had forgotten the skillful way he would mic someone in, the melodic tone in which he would harmonize, and the lightning fast speed of his tongue as he flowed through rap songs like nursery rhymes. Super Steve was back!
It wasn’t long before Bobbie Miller, owner of PartyTime Express, picked up his longtime friend and placed him in the very location he started, the West End Pub on 6th and Proctor – a fine location with a reputation for great food in abundant portions. You wont find a more succulent steak at a better price anywhere in town. They offer $3 wells after 10pm, pool tables, 25 televisions, over 50 pull tabs, and all Pay Per View UFC Fights.
Super Steve is an amazing vocalist, with a rich appreciation for all genres of music. Do you ever wanna sing a song, but can’t remember the name? Just hum a few bars, or a couple lyrics from the song, and Super Steve will point you in the right direction. When he is at the helm, you will find yourself sounding better than ever and trying songs you never thought possible. I look forward to seeing you all down there at the West End Pub Wednesday through Saturday because, the truth is, if you don’t know Super Steve, then you don’t know karaoke!
