Friday karaoke Stanwood-style

Hey, did you guys know that Stanwood has karaoke?!

Just off I-5 at exit #212, the Stanwood Hotel is quite popular for karaoke on Friday night, but not everyone knows about it.

Monica hosts the show. She’s been around the karaoke scene for as long as I can remember, and does a fantastic job keeping things moving along at a fast, fun pace. Like us, she hauls all of her karaoke discs around to her shows, but I think she may have us beat!

It’s always hard to tell how many discs someone has, since we all carry them differently, but wow, what a huge selection!

We stopped in one Friday and the bar was packed, but we found a little table for two just across from where the singers stand, and settled in to watch the show.

There were people of all ages (21 and over of course), and the singers weren’t limited to the type of songs preferred by the crowd. They don’t take credit or debit cards for payments, so bring cash! It’s a bit inconvenient since most people don’t have cash on hand, but they do have a cash machine.

Pretty sure the bartender was new too. I ordered a Screaming Orgasm, more commonly known as a Mudslide – a standard drink – and she had no idea what I was talking about. She ended up looking it up online, in a book, or maybe she just took my word for it. After a minute of discussion, she realized that I didn’t want a fu-fu drink with ice cream, whipped cream and all that. Just your basic Baileys/Kahlua/Vodka and cream. She got it right on! You beer drinkers will be much appreciated here!

The Stanwood Hotel is a great option for karaoke on Friday night. They’ve got pool tables in the back too.

I heard rumblings that the Hotel itself is actually open for business. They might not take debit or credit though, so you’d better ask before you drink the night away and spend the night. Definitely make it a point to go for the karaoke with Monica Fridays.
